Great post. A lot of joy surrounding this defense, maybe blindly so. I am excited about the defense, but I agree with you there are going to be new and different challenges, for the reasons you state, and because of the new LBs.

This may be the best coaching move under Tedford's tenure at Cal. Switching to the 3-4 last year was a revolution, and I expect it to continue. Linebacker seems to be the easiest position to come in and play from the start on D, so I expect with another year of experience the defense will be scary this year. It also makes sense to use in college given how many good LB recruits are out

Great analysis. It's interesting to know that we are the only team in the Pac 10 that runs a 3-4. Though coaches may now know what to look for, it may be many players' first time going up against a 3-4, which will put us at an advantage.
